Ahimsa House services are available anywhere in Georgia, and all services are completely free of charge.


Their direct services include:

  • A 24-hour statewide crisis line - 404-452-6248 which will connect you with emergency shelter for animals of any kind while their owners reach safety from domestic violence

  • Veterinary care for pets with injuries and other health conditions due to the abuse, as well as preventive veterinary care and spay/neuter Forensic veterinary examinations to document abuse and assist in prosecuting abusers

  • Assistance in transporting pets to accompany their owners to safety (both within GA and across the country)

  • Pet food, pet supplies, payment of pet deposits in transitional housing, and other assistance victims may need Crates and other pet supplies for domestic violence shelters, including shelters that have their own on-site housing for pets

  • Assistance in including pets in safety planning

  • Legal advocacy to assist victims in listing their pets on temporary protective orders.

The Atlanta Humane Society's Pets in Crisis Support Program supports pet owners who are experiencing the crisis of housing loss, domestic violence, or a health emergency. Pets live with a foster for up to 90 days while their owners get back on their feet and receive the food, supplies, and vet care that they need during this time at no cost to you. If you’re facing housing instability, domestic violence, or a health emergency, please request help by filling out this form. Domestic violence survivors may also contact Ahimsa House for help.

3. Frankie's Friends (a nationwide organization)

Frankie's Friends provides financial assistance grants to family owned pets in need of lifesaving emergency or specialty veterinary care whose caregivers cannot afford the full cost of treatment. Their programs are designed to help with the treatment of emergency and specialty medical conditions where the pet would otherwise suffer, be euthanized, or relinquished without proper veterinary care.

4. Furkids

Furkids hosts a monthly low-cost pet care clinic at their Furkids Cat Shelter and Headquarters in Cumming, GA. Services include rabies and bordetella vaccines, heartworm tests, exams, and microchipping. Their 9-acre facility also features fun, family-friendly activities such as catio tours, puppy playdates, and more! Appointments are recommended. To make an appointment, please email clinic@furkids.org. Walk-ins are also welcomed!


Furkids also provides low-cost and free spay/neuter for companion pets for qualified caretakers and families in areas of systemic poverty and families who are facing job, medical, and food insecurities. 5. Lifeline Animal Project

Based in Atlanta, LifeLine Animal Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission of ending the shelter euthanasia of healthy and treatable animals. They are the largest animal welfare organization in Georgia. LifeLine manages the Fulton and DeKalb County Animal shelters, as well as provides enforcement services for Fulton County.


LifeLine strives to keep pets safe and with the people who love them. They provide affordable veterinary care, low-cost spay and neuter, free vaccinations, and pet support programs for people with little-to-no access to pet services. As well, Lifeline holds a Pet Food Bank the fourth Friday of the month, from 12pm to 2pm, at 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Chamblee, GA 30341.

Paw Project of Georgia makes animal care accessible to all members of their community by offering diverse supportive programs for healthcare and placement for animals in need. They offer low-cost and high-quality veterinary care including vaccination, bloodwork, and health exams and routine tests, and they also provide treatment for minor illnesses, and low-cost spay/neuter services. Paw Project may be able to help you rehome your pet if they have space in their foster homes. Paws 4 A Cure is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing financial assistance for urgent veterinary care treatment to dogs and cats. They assist dog and cat pet parents throughout the United States who are unable to afford treatment costs for their dog or cat's illness or injury regardless of breed, age, or diagnosis. ShotVet is a mobile veterinary clinic hosting low-cost, convenient pet vaccination events at retail and community locations such as pet supply stores. Their focus is preventive care, helping pet parents keep their dogs and cats up to date on core vaccines and wellness services without the higher cost of a traditional full-service veterinarian.


Services typically include:


  • Rabies vaccines

  • Core vaccines (DA2PP, Bordetella, Lepto, dewormer, etc.) for dogs and cats

  • Heartworm testing

  • Booster vaccines

  • Flea & Tick prevention

Pet parents can also choose individual vaccines or bundled packages based on their pet’s needs and previous history.
